surefire-ep7-sonic-defenders-ultra-earplugs
SureFire EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra Earplugs

The SureFire EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra are patented foam-tipped earplugs designed for users who need hearing protection without losing situational awareness. A soft memory-foam Comply Canal Tip stem fits most ear canals and delivers a 28 dB Noise Reduction Rating (NRR). Available in Black or Clear, in Medium or Large, as a single pair or a 25-pair bulk pack.

Protection Without Isolation

The EP7's proprietary noise-reducing filter allows sounds at safe levels to pass through into the ear canal while attenuating potentially harmful noise above 85 dB. For users who need to stay aware of commands, traffic, or team communication, this means wearing hearing protection consistently rather than pulling it out every time a conversation starts (which is when most noise-induced hearing loss actually occurs).

Two Modes in One Earplug

Each EP7 includes attached filter caps that can be inserted when ambient awareness is no longer a priority. With caps in, the earplugs shift to a higher blocking mode suited to sustained high-noise environments where hearing routine sounds is not critical. The caps remain attached to the earplug body, so they are not a separate item to track or lose.

Compatible With Radio Communication Systems

The EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra also function as earpieces for compatible radio communication systems. For security professionals or range personnel who need both hearing protection and radio comms, this eliminates the need to choose between the two.

Features

28 dB NRR: Noise Reduction Rating of 28 dB via a proprietary noise-reducing filter design

Comply Canal Tips: Soft memory-foam tips fit most ear canals and form a secure, comfortable seal

Pass-through filter: Allows safe-level sounds through while reducing noise above 85 dB

Attached filter caps: Included caps insert for additional protection when situational awareness is not needed

Radio earpiece compatible: Compatible with select radio communication systems

Patented design: Foam-tipped stem construction is a patented SureFire design

Specifications

Specification

Detail

Brand

SureFire

Model

EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra

Noise Reduction Rating (NRR)

28 dB

Tip Material

Soft memory-foam (Comply Canal Tips)

Colors Available

Black, Clear

Sizes Available

Medium, Large

Pack Options

1 Pair; 25 Pairs (Clear / Medium only)

Included Accessories

Attached filter caps

Who This Is For and Isn't

The EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra suit shooters, range officers, security professionals, and tactical personnel who need consistent hearing protection while remaining able to hear conversations and ambient sounds. This rating reflects the attenuation provided by the proprietary noise-reducing filter built into the earplug stem. Sounds at safe levels continue to pass through, while noise above 85 dB is reduced.

Can I still hear conversations and commands while wearing these earplugs?

Yes. The EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra are designed to allow sounds at safe levels to pass through into the ear canal. Users can hear routine speech and ambient sounds while the filter attenuates harmful noise levels. Inserting the included filter caps shifts the earplugs to a higher-blocking mode when ambient awareness is not needed.

What do the attached filter caps do, and are they easy to lose?

The filter caps on the EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra insert into the earplug to provide additional noise blocking for situations where hearing ambient sounds is not a priority. Because the caps are attached directly to the earplug body, they remain with the earplug and do not need to be stored or tracked separately.

Which size fits better: Medium or Large?

The EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra are available in Medium and Large. The foam-tipped stem design fits most people, but individual ear canal size varies. If you are between sizes or unsure, Medium is the more broadly fitting option. The 25-pair bulk pack is available in Medium only.

Can the EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra be used with a radio system?

The EP7 Sonic Defenders Ultra are compatible with select radio communication systems, functioning as earpieces in addition to providing hearing protection. Compatibility depends on the specific radio system. Verify compatibility with your radio equipment before purchase.
