rothco-tri-fold-steel-shovel
Rothco Tri-Fold Steel Shovel

The Rothco Tri-Fold Shovel is a steel-construction folding entrenching tool designed for military personnel, outdoor enthusiasts, and survivalists who need a compact, capable digging implement on the move. Its three-section design extends to 24 inches for digging leverage and collapses to 9 inches for pack storage. Available in Black or Green, with or without a carry cover.

Built for Field and Camp Use

The Rothco Tri-Fold Shovel handles the digging tasks that come up repeatedly in field and backcountry settings: fire pit preparation, cat hole sanitation, snow clearing, and trench work. The 5.5-inch-wide blade provides a workable digging surface across these varied applications, and the steel construction holds up to the resistance of compacted soil and packed snow without flexing under load.

Compact Enough to Carry Every Time

At 9 inches folded, the Tri-Fold Shovel fits inside a standard rucksack side pocket or pack lid without consuming meaningful space. The three-section fold is the mechanism that achieves this: the handle and blade sections collapse against each other rather than requiring a separate storage bag or external attachment point. The Green variant with cover adds a dedicated carry sleeve for cleaner storage.

24-Inch Extended Reach

When deployed, the Tri-Fold Shovel reaches 24 inches from handle end to blade tip. That length puts the blade at a useful working angle for a standing or kneeling user without requiring the short, cramped strokes that smaller entrenching tools demand. For sustained digging tasks, the added reach reduces fatigue compared to palm-sized folding tools.

Features

Three-section folding design: collapses to 9 inches for pack storage

Extended working length: opens to 24 inches for digging leverage

Steel construction: metal blade and handle for field durability

5.5-inch blade width: broad digging surface for earth, snow, and debris

Optional carry cover: Green variant available with a dedicated storage sleeve

Specifications

Specification

Without Cover / Black

Without Cover / Green

With Cover / Green

SKU

RTC-82810

RTC-828

RTC-829

Weight

2.2 lb

1.8 lb

1.95 lb

Extended length

24 inches

Folded length

9 inches

Blade width

5.5 inches

Material

Steel metal

Carry cover included

No

No

Yes

Color

Black

Green

Green

California Proposition 65 Warning: This product can expose you to Di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP), which is known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm.

Who This Is For and Isn't

The Rothco Tri-Fold Shovel suits military personnel, campers, hikers, and survivalists who need a steel entrenching tool that packs small and deploys quickly for digging, snow clearing, and field sanitation tasks.
