Measuring 17 x 12.5 x 2 inches and weighing approximately 2.29 lb, it is sized to pack into a gear bag for camping, bushcraft, prospecting, or survival kit use. One variant is available.

Forged Head for Tough Ground

The Pick Mattock's forged head is designed to bite into compacted soil, break through small roots, and cut clean trenches where a standard shovel would struggle. A forged construction distributes impact force across the head rather than concentrating it at a weld point, which matters when you are working rocky or root-dense ground repeatedly over a long outing.

Hardwood Handle Grip and Control

The 17-inch solid hardwood handle gives the Pick Mattock enough leverage for effective swings without the bulk of a full-size mattock. Wood absorbs vibration better than synthetic alternatives, reducing hand fatigue during extended digging sessions. The handle length also keeps the overall footprint compact enough to stow flat in a pack or kit bag.

Compact Dimensions for Field Use

At 17 x 12.5 x 2 inches, the Pick Mattock fits into standard gear bags and pack side pockets without requiring a dedicated tool slot. That portability makes it practical for hiking, prospecting, fishing camps, and survival kits where carrying a full-size digging tool is not realistic.

Features

Forged pick head: loosens soil, cuts small roots, and digs trenches in tough terrain

Solid hardwood handle: 17-inch length provides leverage and vibration absorption

Compact footprint: 17 x 12.5 x 2 inches fits into gear bags and pack pockets

Dual-purpose design: suited for digging and trenching tasks across gardening, camping, and bushcraft use

Lightweight build: approximately 2.29 lb for field carry

Specifications

Specification

Detail

SKU

RTC-76

Weight

2.29 lb

Dimensions

17 x 12.5 x 2 inches

Handle material

Solid hardwood

Head construction

Forged

Country of origin

Taiwan

Who This Is For and Isn't

The Rothco Pick Mattock suits campers, bushcrafters, prospectors, gardeners, and outdoor enthusiasts who need a compact, capable digging tool that travels light.
