Housed in an aluminum cast case, it combines a magnetic compass, integrated LED light, built-in magnifying glass, and side ruler in one compact unit measuring 17 x 5.9 x 2.1 cm. It is available in Olive Drab.

Built to Handle Outdoor Conditions

The Rothco Military Marching Compass is housed in an aluminum cast case that resists the knocks and exposure typical of field use. Whether the terrain is rocky, wet, or heavily wooded, the case is designed to keep the compass functional where lighter-duty instruments might fail. The PP glass lens protects the compass face while remaining clear enough for accurate readings.

Readable Day or Night

The integrated LED light lets users read the compass face in low-light or no-light situations without reaching for a separate torch. This makes the Rothco Marching Compass practical for pre-dawn starts, late returns to camp, or any situation where ambient light is unreliable. The built-in magnifying glass supports precise bearing readings, reducing the chance of misreading a heading under pressure.

Map Work Made Practical

The side ruler on the Rothco Marching Compass is scaled for use alongside a map, allowing users to measure distances directly without a separate tool. Combined with the thumb hold, which steadies the compass against the hand during use, the compass supports the kind of deliberate, stable orientation that map-and-compass navigation requires rather than a quick glance at a phone screen.

Features

Aluminum cast case: heavy-duty construction for durability in outdoor conditions

Integrated LED light: enables compass reading in low-light environments

Built-in magnifying glass: supports accurate bearing readings

Side ruler: scaled for map use to measure distances in the field

Thumb hold: provides stability for precise orientation

Specifications

Specification

Detail

Case Material

Aluminum cast case, PP glass

Dimensions

17 x 5.9 x 2.1 cm

Weight

0.25 lb

Color

Olive Drab

Country of Origin

China

Who This Is For and Isn't

The Rothco Military Marching Compass suits hikers, campers, survivalists, and preppers who want a compact, all-in-one navigation tool that works in low light and pairs with a paper map. The aluminum construction is intended to withstand the physical demands of outdoor use, including rough handling and exposure to the elements, while keeping the overall weight at 0.25 lb.

Can the compass be read in the dark?

Yes. The Rothco Military Marching Compass includes an integrated LED light that illuminates the compass face for reading in low-light or dark conditions. This removes the need to carry a separate light source solely for compass use during night navigation or pre-dawn activity.

How does the side ruler work with a map?

The side ruler on the Rothco Military Marching Compass is designed to align with a map's scale markings, allowing users to measure distances directly on the map. This is a standard feature of marching-style compasses intended for land navigation alongside a topographic or trail map.

What does the thumb hold do?

The thumb hold on the Rothco Military Marching Compass steadies the instrument against the hand while taking a bearing, reducing movement that can cause a misread. It is a common feature on compasses designed for deliberate, map-based navigation rather than casual directional checks.

Are there any shipping restrictions on this compass?

The Rothco Military Marching Compass carries a hazmat restriction and cannot be shipped via air freight; ground shipping is required.
