The body is 100% polar fleece with 100% nylon reinforcement patches at the neck, shoulders, and elbows. Available in Black, AR Tan, Olive Drab, Coyote Brown, and Foliage Green, in sizes XS through 3XL (size and color availability vary by variant).

Built for Cold-Weather Layering

The Rothco Gen III Level 3 ECWCS Fleece Jacket is engineered to slot into the ECWCS layering system as a mid-layer insulator beneath a soft shell jacket, parka, or other outerwear. Worn this way, the polar fleece body traps body heat efficiently while the outer shell handles wind and precipitation. The jacket can also be worn as a standalone piece during fall and spring conditions when a full layering system is not needed, making it a single garment that covers a wide temperature range.

Breathability Under Exertion

The Rothco Gen III Level 3 ECWCS Fleece Jacket features gridded side and armpit panels that allow excess heat and moisture vapor to escape during high-output activity. This ventilation design reduces the risk of overheating and moisture buildup that can compromise warmth when the wearer slows down. Elastic cuffs seal the wrists to keep wind from entering the sleeves, balancing heat retention with active ventilation.

Reinforced Construction and Practical Storage

Nylon patches at the neck, shoulders, and elbows add durability to the high-wear contact points most likely to abrade against load-bearing equipment or pack straps. The full-front zipper extends through the collar to form a turtleneck-style closure, adding coverage at the neck without a separate gaiter. Four pockets are included: two lined hand pockets and two interior mesh pockets. Loop fields on both sides of the chest accommodate name tapes and military rank badges.

Features

ECWCS-compatible mid-layer: designed to layer within the Extreme Cold Weather Clothing System or wear standalone

100% polar fleece body: retains body heat; 100% nylon reinforcement patches at neck, shoulders, and elbows

Gridded side and armpit panels: allow heat and moisture to escape during active use

Extended zipper collar: full-front zipper continues through the collar for turtleneck-style neck coverage

Four pockets: two lined hand pockets and two interior mesh pockets

Loop fields on chest: accept name tapes and military rank badges on both sides

Elastic cuffs: seal wrists to reduce wind infiltration

Specifications

Specification

Detail

Brand

Rothco

Body Material

100% Polar Fleece

Patch Material

100% Nylon

Jacket Weight Class

Midweight

Sleeve Type

Long Sleeve

Closure

Full-front zipper with extended collar

Pockets

4 (2 lined hand pockets, 2 interior mesh pockets)

Gender

Men's (Adult)

Weather Rating

Cold Weather

Available Colors

Black, AR Tan, Olive Drab, Coyote Brown, Foliage Green

Available Sizes

XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL (availability varies by color)

Garment Weight

1.5–1.75 lb (varies by color/size variant)

Country of Origin

China

Who This Is For and Isn't

The Rothco Gen III Level 3 ECWCS Fleece Jacket suits military personnel, law enforcement, and outdoor enthusiasts who need a reliable cold-weather mid-layer compatible with the ECWCS system, or a standalone fleece for fall and spring conditions. Generation III organizes garments into seven levels by function. Level 3 is the mid-layer insulation piece, worn over moisture-wicking base layers and under a wind- or waterproof shell. The Rothco Gen III Level 3 ECWCS Fleece Jacket is designed to fill that mid-layer role, though it can also be worn as a standalone jacket in mild cold conditions.

Can this jacket be worn as a standalone outer layer?

The Rothco Gen III Level 3 ECWCS Fleece Jacket can be worn as a standalone outer layer in dry, calm conditions during fall or spring temperatures. In wet weather or high wind, it is intended to be worn under a compatible shell jacket or parka, as polar fleece does not block wind or repel water on its own.

What are the gridded side and armpit panels for?

The gridded panels on the sides and armpits of the Rothco Gen III Level 3 ECWCS Fleece Jacket allow excess body heat and moisture vapor to escape during high-exertion activity. This helps prevent overheating and reduces moisture buildup inside the jacket, which can otherwise compromise warmth when activity level drops.

How many pockets does the jacket have, and what are they for?

The Rothco Gen III Level 3 ECWCS Fleece Jacket includes four pockets: two lined hand pockets on the exterior for warmth and everyday carry, and two interior mesh pockets for additional storage.
