The large main compartment handles bulkier items and closes with a drawstring, then a pocket lid secured by an adjustable buckle, two layers of closure that keep contents from shifting on uneven terrain. A zippered pocket on the lid and a separate front zippered pocket give quick access to smaller items without opening the main compartment. Two side pockets with buckle closures hold water bottles or other frequently reached items upright and within reach.

Carry Comfort Over Long Distances

The Rothco Canvas Outdoorsman Rucksack distributes load across dual adjustable padded shoulder straps and a 2-inch waist belt. The waist belt transfers weight from the shoulders to the hips on longer carries, reducing fatigue during extended treks. A top carry handle provides a grab point when lifting the pack in and out of a vehicle or locker. Multiple D-rings on the exterior allow additional gear (pouches, tools, or accessories) to be clipped on without consuming interior space.

Heavyweight Canvas Built for Rough Conditions

The Rothco Canvas Outdoorsman Rucksack is constructed from heavyweight cotton canvas, a material that resists abrasion and holds its shape under load. This canvas is naturally water-resistant, making it suitable for outdoor conditions where light moisture exposure is likely. The construction is intended for long-term, repeated use in rugged environments rather than occasional light-duty carry.

Features

Main Compartment: Large interior with drawstring closure and adjustable buckle-secured pocket lid

Lid and Front Pockets: Zippered pocket on the lid and a separate front zippered pocket for smaller items

Side Pockets: Two side pockets with buckle closures for water bottles or additional gear

D-Ring Attachment Points: Multiple D-rings for clipping on external pouches or accessories

Padded Shoulder Straps and Waist Belt: Dual adjustable padded straps and a 2-inch waist belt for load distribution

Top Carry Handle: Reinforced handle for lifting and short-distance carry

Specifications

Specification

Detail

Dimensions

19 in x 13 in x 8 in

Weight

2.1 lb

Material

Heavyweight cotton canvas

Color

Woodland Camo

Shoulder Straps

Dual adjustable padded canvas shoulder straps

Waist Belt

2-inch waist belt

SKU

RTC-2306

California Prop 65

Contains Di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP)

Who This Is For and Isn't

The Rothco Canvas Outdoorsman Rucksack suits campers, hikers, and outdoor enthusiasts who want a durable, traditionally styled canvas pack with organized storage and comfortable carry for day trips or multi-day outings. The drawstring-and-buckle-lid closure keeps contents secure during active movement on the trail.

How does the waist belt help on longer hikes?

The 2-inch waist belt on the Rothco Canvas Outdoorsman Rucksack anchors the pack against the hips, shifting some of the load off the shoulders. Combined with the dual adjustable padded shoulder straps, this helps distribute weight more evenly during extended carries, reducing shoulder fatigue over time.

Is the canvas water-resistant?

The heavyweight cotton canvas used in this rucksack is naturally water-resistant, meaning it can handle light moisture and brief exposure to rain. This rucksack does not carry a stated waterproof rating, so a pack cover or dry bags are advisable in sustained heavy rain.

Can I attach additional pouches or gear to the outside?

Yes. The Rothco Canvas Outdoorsman Rucksack includes multiple D-rings on the exterior, allowing compatible pouches, tools, or accessories to be clipped on. This extends the pack's carrying capacity without using interior space, which is useful for gear that needs to stay accessible during a trek.

Does this rucksack have a Prop 65 warning?

Yes. The Rothco Canvas Outdoorsman Rucksack is subject to a California Proposition 65 warning for Di(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate (DEHP). California law requires this notice for products containing chemicals on the state's list of substances known to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm.
