rothco-canvas-briefcase-backpack
Rothco Canvas Briefcase Backpack

The Rothco Canvas Briefcase Backpack is a heavyweight cotton canvas bag measuring 17" x 12" x 6.5" that carries three ways: as a backpack with hideaway straps, a briefcase with carry handles, or a shoulder bag with a removable strap. Two main compartments, three outer zippered pockets, and a polyester-lined interior make it suited to work commutes, travel, and daily use.

Three Ways to Carry

The Rothco Canvas Briefcase Backpack ships with hideaway backpack straps stowed in a dedicated rear compartment, a removable shoulder strap, and sturdy carry handles. Switching between modes takes seconds, so the bag adapts to the day rather than the other way around. The carry handles and shoulder strap give it the profile of a structured briefcase; pulling out the hideaway straps converts it to a full backpack without any add-on hardware.

Organized Interior

Two main compartments divide the bag's interior. One compartment includes a padded laptop section secured by a hook-and-loop closure, keeping a laptop isolated from other contents and protected against movement. The polyester-lined interior resists abrasion and makes it easier to locate items inside a dark bag.

Outer Pockets and Closures

Three outer zippered pockets handle quick-access storage. The large outer pocket includes an internal divider for separating documents, cables, or accessories. Two smaller exterior pockets suit items needed without opening the main compartments. Magnetic button closure pockets on the front and back handle areas add a secondary layer of organization while keeping the bag's exterior profile clean.

Features

Three carrying modes: hideaway backpack straps, removable shoulder strap, and carry handles

Padded laptop compartment: hook-and-loop closure inside one main compartment

Heavyweight cotton canvas exterior: polyester-lined interior

Three outer zippered pockets: large pocket with internal divider plus two smaller pockets

Magnetic button closure pockets: on front and back handle areas

Specifications

Specification

Detail

Dimensions

17" x 12" x 6.5"

Weight

3 lb

Exterior material

Heavyweight cotton canvas

Interior lining

Polyester

Main compartments

2 (one with padded laptop section)

Outer zippered pockets

3 (one with internal divider)

Carrying options

Backpack straps (hideaway), removable shoulder strap, carry handles

Prop 65

Warning: This product can expose you to Lead. No maximum laptop screen size is specified for the padded compartment. Most 15" laptops fit bags in this size range, but buyers with larger laptops should measure against the 12" interior width before ordering.

Is the canvas water-resistant?

Rothco describes the heavyweight cotton canvas used in this briefcase backpack as naturally water-resistant. The canvas resists light moisture, but the bag carries no waterproof rating. In heavy rain, contents in the main compartments may be at risk without additional protection such as a rain cover or liner bag.

Can the shoulder strap be removed entirely?

Yes. The Rothco Canvas Briefcase Backpack includes a removable shoulder strap that detaches completely, leaving the bag to be carried by its handles as a briefcase or by the hideaway backpack straps.

Where are the hideaway backpack straps stored?

The Rothco Canvas Briefcase Backpack has a dedicated rear compartment specifically for stowing the hideaway backpack straps when the bag is carried as a briefcase or shoulder bag. This keeps the straps out of sight and prevents them from dangling when not in use.

Does this bag have any MOLLE webbing or tactical attachment points?

No. The Rothco Canvas Briefcase Backpack is a civilian-style canvas bag designed for work and travel. It includes no MOLLE webbing, PALS grid, or tactical attachment points. Buyers who need modular pouch compatibility should consider a dedicated tactical pack instead.
