ess-rollbar-interchangeable-lens-tactical-sunglasses
ESS Rollbar Interchangeable-Lens Tactical Sunglasses

The ESS Rollbar is an interchangeable-lens tactical sunglass built for demanding field environments, rated to ANSI Z87+ and MIL SPEC ballistic protection standards. Polycarbonate lenses deliver a clear, accurate field of view, and the auto-locking Rollbar lens gate allows rapid lens swaps without tools. Available in Black, Terrain Tan, and Hi-Vis Orange frames, with lens kit configurations that include Clear, Smoke, Mirrored Gray, and Copper options depending on variant.

Built for Rapid Lens Changes

The ESS Rollbar's rotating lens gate locks and releases lenses quickly, so swapping from clear to tinted (or back) takes seconds rather than minutes. Secure retention under impact means the lens stays in place when conditions get rough, not just when conditions are calm. For buyers who move between bright sun, low light, and indoor environments in a single shift, that speed matters.

Low-Drag Fit for Gear-Heavy Loadouts

The Rollbar's temple arms are designed with a low-profile geometry that avoids conflict with hats, helmets, hearing protection, and communications gear. A balanced fit distributes weight evenly so the frame stays comfortable during extended wear. Buyers who stack eye pro with other head-worn equipment will find the frame stays out of the way rather than creating pressure points or gaps in hearing protection seals.

Polycarbonate Lenses Rated to ANSI Z87+ and MIL SPEC

ESS uses military-grade polycarbonate for the Rollbar's lenses, meeting both ANSI Z87+ occupational eye protection requirements and MIL SPEC ballistic protection standards. That dual rating means the lenses are evaluated against both civilian industrial-hazard criteria and military ballistic-fragment threat parameters, not just one or the other. Each kit includes both Clear and Smoke Gray lenses (and Copper in select variants), so the appropriate lens for the light condition is already in the case.

Features

Auto-locking Rollbar lens gate: rotating gate provides rapid lens exchange and secure retention under impact

ANSI Z87+ and MIL SPEC ballistic protection: dual-rated polycarbonate lenses meet both civilian and military standards

Low-drag temple arms: compatible with hats, helmets, hearing protection, and comms gear

Multiple lens configurations: Clear, Smoke Gray, Mirrored Gray, and Copper lenses available depending on variant

Included carrying and care kit: zippered hard case, replacement lens pouch, elastic retention strap, and microfiber cleaning pouch

Specifications

Attribute

Detail

Brand

ESS

Lens Material

Military-grade polycarbonate

Protection Standard

ANSI Z87+ and MIL SPEC ballistic

Frame Colors

Black, Terrain Tan, Hi-Vis Orange

Lens Options

Clear, Smoke Gray, Mirrored Gray, Copper (varies by variant)

Logo Options

Silver, Subdued

Weight (by variant)

0.36 lb – 0.48 lb

Included

Frame, Clear lenses, Smoke Gray lenses (per kit), replacement lens pouch, zippered hard case, elastic retention strap, microfiber cleaning pouch, ESS sticker

Who This Is For and Isn't

The ESS Rollbar suits law enforcement officers, military personnel, and tactical shooters who need eye protection rated to both ANSI Z87+ and MIL SPEC ballistic standards, and who regularly swap lenses to match changing light conditions. ANSI Z87+ covers occupational eye and face protection against industrial hazards, while the MIL SPEC ballistic rating addresses fragment and impact threats evaluated under military test parameters. Both ratings apply to the lenses as supplied with the frame.

How does the Rollbar lens swap system work?

The ESS Rollbar uses a rotating lens gate, called the Rollbar, that auto-locks to hold lenses securely in place under impact. Rotating the gate releases the lens for a rapid swap. The system is designed for field use without tools, so switching between the included Clear and Smoke Gray lenses (or other included lenses depending on variant) takes only seconds.

Will the ESS Rollbar frame work with helmets and hearing protection?

The ESS Rollbar is designed with low-drag temple arms specifically to avoid interference with hats, helmets, hearing protection, and communications gear. The balanced fit and slim temple profile allow the frame to sit close to the face without creating gaps or pressure conflicts with other head-worn equipment.

What is included in the ESS Rollbar kit?

Each ESS Rollbar kit includes the frame, Clear lenses, Smoke Gray lenses (with Copper added in select variants), a replacement lens pouch, a zippered hard carrying case, an elastic retention strap, a microfiber cleaning pouch, and an ESS sticker. Lens count varies by variant; check the selected variant's description for the specific lens configuration.

Can the ESS Rollbar ship to my state?

The ESS Rollbar is eyewear, not body armor, and is not subject to the New York or Connecticut body armor shipping restrictions.
